Present in Bangkok since 1993, Urgo is actively involved in numerous charitable initiatives through its foundation, with a particular focus on combating diabetes and harelip.
This condition concerns many children suffering from deformities of the mouth. In addition to the physical impairment, a cleft lip also called harelip, has a major impact on the day-to-day and social lives of patients.
In response, the Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons of Thailand through the Harelip in Surgery Association supported by the Urgo Foundation, organises 4 or 5 events every year whereby renowned surgeons operate in a voluntary capacity on hundreds of children in operating theatres graciously made available by the country’s hospitals.
In 2013, more than 350 patients were treated.
The association also operates on malformations which are congenital or the consequence of serious burns.
The other major cause supported by the Foundation concerns the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. Levels of obesity in Thailand continue to rise with an attendant increase in the number of diabetics. Diabetic foot ulcers are one of the most serious and costly consequences of this disease.
Through its multiple actions, the Urgo Foundation strives to back research and promote the work of the various players in the scientific community, while also supporting health education and prevention.
