Osteoarthritis and compressive neuropathies: a key issue in scientific debates in Bari 2040 1536 Fondation Urgo

On October 24, in Bari, during the scientific training course organized by Urgo Foundation, the spotlight was placed on two distinct yet often interconnected medical conditions: osteoarthritis and compressive neuropathies—at the conference “Osteoarthritis and Compressive Neuropathies: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches.”

The spotlight was cast on two distinct yet often interconnected medical conditions—osteoarthritis and compressive neuropathies—at the congress “Osteoarthritis and Compressive Neuropathies: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches”, held on October 24, 2025, in Bari. The event aimed to analyze how these two clinical scenarios can influence one another and underscored the crucial importance of a multidisciplinary approach for optimal patient management.

The scientific directors of the initiative were Dr. Raffaello Pellegrino (Associate Professor of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at LUM University – Casamassima (Bari) and Regional Secretary for Puglia, SIMFER) and Dr. Giovanni De Nicolò (Head of the U.O.S.V.D. Rehabilitation Unit, Bari–Modugno). The high-level scientific program was structured into two distinct sessions, covering a wide range of therapeutic strategies, from conservative and rehabilitative approaches to surgical and minimally invasive options.

Morning Session: Focus on Osteoarthritis

The first session explored the many facets of osteoarthritis. Discussions included conservative management, new frontiers in regenerative medicine applied to the hip and knee, and surgical approaches for gonarthrosis and coxarthrosis. Significant attention was devoted to post-surgical rehabilitation and the presentation of specific clinical cases, including a focus on femoroacetabular impingement.

Afternoon Session: Compressive Neuropathies

The afternoon session was dedicated to compressive neuropathies. Speakers addressed topics such as neuropathic pain, surgical options, and post-operative rehabilitation. Innovative conservative strategies were presented, targeting neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, and pain. Clinical cases included carpal tunnel syndrome and particular examples of radiculopathy, such as spondylolisthesis with isthmic lysis.

The event represented a key opportunity for healthcare professionals to update their knowledge on the latest scientific evidence and real-life experiences. The multidisciplinary approach—bringing together physiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other specialists—was highlighted as the cornerstone for effective management of these complex conditions.
