Preventing Pression Injuries in Vietnam 2372 1246 Fondation Urgo

On June 14th in Hanoi, the URGO Foundation, partnered with the Health Economics Research and Evaluation Center (HERAC) and under the auspices of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health (MoH), to hold an expert workshop on pressure injury care.

Bringing together leading specialists from Vietnam and abroad, the event aimed to improve early prevention and treatment of pressure injuries and ulcers.

From prevention to treatment of Pressure Injury

Around forty participants — including ICU department heads, hospital directors, neurosurgery and stroke specialists, chief nurses, wound care experts, and Ministry of Health representatives — gathered to share their insights on managing pressure injuries.

The discussions emphasized the critical importance of early detection and prevention for at-risk patients, as well as early intervention for pressure injuries starting at stage 1 (skin damage), with the goal of reducing the incidence of pressure injuries across the country.

A public health and care quality target

With pressure ulcer prevalence rates estimated between 10–15% in general wards and up to 60% in ICUs (Intensive Care Unit) departments, pressure injuries should become an important criterion of hospital quality management of Vietnam MoH.

Beyond the significant financial burden on the healthcare system and patients, these wounds are associated with prolonged recovery times, increased mortality, and decreased quality of life.

In collaboration with HERAC and in support of local health authorities, the URGO Foundation is proud to contribute to making pressure injury prevention a national priority in Vietnam — continuing its mission to support healthcare professionals in order to help patients heal better.
