In September 2024, the Fondation URGO took part in the congress organized by the Associazione Italiana Studio Dolore (AISD) in Bergamo, from September 19 to 21. The event, which brought together 450 specialists mainly made up of pain therapists, was an opportunity to look at advances in chronic pain management and discuss current therapeutic practices.
Key figures on chronic pain in Italy
Chronic pain affects a significant proportion of the Italian population, with almost 10 million adults affected. This represents around 8% of the population aged between 10 and 44. These figures testify to the scale of the challenge faced by healthcare professionals in managing chronic pain, an issue that both affects patients’ quality of life and represents a major medical challenge.
The objectives of the AISD congress
The congress provided an opportunity for pain professionals to meet and exchange views on the latest advances in this field. The main objectives were to
- Strengthen relationships with pain specialists, established over the years, to continue improving therapeutic practices.
- Explore the therapeutic habits of professionals in the management of all phases and typologies of chronic pain.
- Discover the state of the art and new developments in the management of patients suffering from chronic pain.
A lasting partnership with AISD
For the past three years, the URGO Foundation has been actively collaborating with AISD to improve knowledge and management of chronic pain in Italy. This event was an opportunity to strengthen this partnership and explore new ways of improving patient care.
A workshop on technological evolution
During the congress, the Fondation URGO led a workshop on the technological evolution of PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide), a recent innovation in pain therapy. The workshop provided an opportunity to discuss how technological advances in recent years have improved the effectiveness of the therapy.
Why is the Fondation URGO active in this field?
One of the URGO Foundation’s major objectives is to manage chronic pain and improve patients’ quality of life.
