In Africa, the URGO Foundation leads specific humanitarian initiatives to help children, in partnership with the Red Cross of Côte d’Ivoire.
Committed to educating
mothers about child nutrition
The Red Cross of Côte d’Ivoire (CRCI) is the leading private institution in the medico-social and health sector and is present throughout the country.
In addition to targeted activities for diseases such as HIV and Ebola, the CRCI works directly at the community level to improve health care and health services by promoting hygiene, routine vaccinations, breastfeeding, the treatment of childhood illnesses, nutritional education and water and sanitation.
Through this partnership with the Red Cross of Côte d’Ivoire formed in 2019, the Foundation, with 10 years of experience in Africa in preventive healthcare, contributes to improving the health of mothers and young children.
How ?
By increasing mothers’ understanding and awareness of key family practices related to child nutrition:
- Education of local communities, especially mothers, on child nutrition
- Setting up “Mothers’ Clubs” (training, support and coaching) and raising fathers’ awareness through the “Men as Partners” approach
Committed to the training
of healthcare professionals
As part of this partnership, the Foundation is also committed to the training of healthcare staff:
- Through awareness-raising and local training of healthcare professionals in monitoring and management of mothers in the communities, and on child nutrition
- Through material assistance
For example, 17 villages, with a combined population of nearly 10,000, on the outskirts of Taabo, in the south part of Côte d’Ivoire, received support from this partnership in 2019.
